Round Valley triumphs over Bruins

ROUND VALLEY -- Round Valley made one basket more than Hopi to beat the Bruins, 44-42, in overtime in the season opener for both boys high school basketball teams Nov. 30.

Chase Bigham and Parker Brown led Round Valley with 16 points each and Ryne Pete added seven points. Renaldo Wartz topped Hopi with 16 points and Shane Honanie fired in a dozen markers.

Brown scored four points in the opening period as Round Valley took an 11-7 edge. Jeremy Adams scored three points to lead Hopi during the period.

Bigham poured in eight points during the second quarter as Round Valley led 25-13 at intermission.

Wartz tossed in six points and Honanie netted five during the third period as Hopi closed the gap to 31-26.

Wartz poured in eight points and Honanie added three markers as Hopi tied the game at 38-38 at the end of regulation.

Brown scored four points and Bigham two in the overtime period as Round Valley pulled out the victory. Octavius Wartz and Shane Honanie scored two points each for the Bruins during the overtime period.

Lady Bruins

Four players scored in double figures as Round Valley beat Hopi, 70-56 in the girls high school basketball game.

Brook Bryce topped Round Valley with 15 points, Danika Crother netted 13 and Markee Davil and Marcase Matthew scored a dozen points apiece. Amity Fineh added eight points.

Candace Pocheoma topped the Lady Bruins with 15 points, Deidra Jones tossed in ten, Rozanna Nasafotie, Terra Morgan and Marleita Burbank netted seven points apiece.

Davil and Matthews scored four points each in the opening period as Round Valley jumped to a 16-5 edge.

Crother tossed in five points in the second period as

Round Valley led 34-20 at halftime. Pocheoma poured in nine points for Hopi during the second quarter.

Davil fired in eight points during the third period as Round Valley led 54-35. Nasafotie and Burbank tossed in three points each for Hopi during the third quarter.

Hopi outscored Round Valley by five points in the final frame. Jones poured in eight points and Pocheoma added five for the Lady Bruins.
