STARS program offers hope to area families for the holidays
The ninth annual STARS Program is hoping to give approximately 150 youth from 40 families in the area a good Christmas.
According to the Winslow Family Resource Center, the event was started in 1996 by Karen Burdwell, who now works for Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
Every year, a tree is placed at Wal-Mart with stars on it. Each star contains a child's age, and where to deliver the unwrapped present.
Applications were accepted beginning Nov. 15, and the openings were filled up very quickly.
All participants are part of the Winslow School District.
