A RUDE AWAKENING

To the Editor:

This morning at 1:30 a.m. (4/10/05), there was a knock at my front door, waking me and my family up.

It was a drunk and disoriented street person begging for money again.

It isn’t the first time that some street bum has had the unmitigated gall to wake me and my family up in this manner.

It lends me to wonder when (if ever) will our city government grow a backbone and finally deal with Winslow’s street people problem.

There’s always a lot of talk about the problem, but never any action. Now the street people are crossing the line and waking up hard working, law-abiding citizens in the wee hours of the morning begging for money.

In the working world, laziness, incompetence and indecisive cowardice would get a person fired.

Maybe it’s time to apply the same standard to Mayor Boles and the City Council since they’re supposed to be working for the citizens of Winslow and not the other way around.
