Winslow man arrested for attempted murder

Winslow Police credit a 16-year-old girl with saving her friend’s life after he was nearly choked to death.

According to police, Winslow resident Nicholas Brian Branson, 22, was a friend of the family who looked after the children when their parents were away. He was at the family’s home on March 19 around 3 a.m. and was refusing to leave.

The girl called her friend, Gabriel Allen Lee, 22, to remove Branson. Police are still investigating what happened next, but according to witnesses, Branson allegedly choked Lee with a cord to the point that Lee stopped breathing.

The girl performed CPR on Lee who was breathing again when the EMS crew arrived. He was taken to Winslow Memorial Hospital then flown to a hospital in Phoenix.

Branson fled the scene on foot but eventually turned himself in to police. He was charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and burglary.

The burglary charge stems from entering the home with intent to commit a felony, according to police.

Lee’s condition was not available as of Monday. Since the matter was under investigation, police could not comment on whether drugs or alcohol played a part in the incident.
