Indian Market honors local Native artists<br>

Hopi Tribe’s Dextra Quotskuya named as one of four Lifetime Achievement Artists

SANTA FE, N.M. — Each year since 1922, more than 1,200 tribal artists from more than 100 different tribes from the entire United States go to Santa Fe, N.M. to enter the most highly competitive, world renowed and promoted, two-day native art show known as “Indian Market.”

The Southwestern Association on Indian Affairs came into formal being in 1959 but had a long history since 1922 and was known as the “Indian Fair” and the “Southwest Indian Fair and Industrial Arts and Crafts Exhibition,” because the Indian Market was just one of several events connected with Santa Fe’s Annual Fiesta Celebration.
