Objects to recent Observer cartoon

Elmer Cody’s cartoon in the Nov. 10 edition of the Navajo Hopi Observer presents excellent artwork but a terrible message. As a Viet Nam veteran and an American Indian (Cherokee/Creek), I resent the smaller stature and more primitive image of the Indian soldier. It is bad enough that our people are being recruited and injured in disproportionate numbers in an illegall war that is killing tens of thousands of innocent people. Do we now have to subject ourselves to such images that have us standing guard with a spear while the ‘real’ warrior fights?
