Cross country teams finish fifth in state<br>

The Winslow High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams each finished in fifth place at the Arizona State 3A Conference Cross Country Meet held on Saturday at Anthem. Winslow had one girl and four boys win medalist positions.

In the boys’ meet, Hopi High School won the meet with a low score of 62. Rio Rico was second with a score of 74. Ganado and Tuba City wound up with identical scores of 75. Winslow was fifth with a score of 114.

Kyle Whitehair was one of four Winslow medalists, finishing No. 18, one place ahead of Andrew Taliman who finished No. 19. Derrick Thompson finished No. 21 and Joseph Ricks was also a medalist finishing No. 28.

In the girls’ meet, Ganado won the meet with a low score of 41. Window Rock finished second with a score of 84. Hopi was third with a score of 117. Rio Rico was fourth with a score of 127. Winslow finished fifth with a score of 127.

Janeen Yazzie was the highest finisher on either Winslow team and the only medalist on the girls’ team. She finished in sixth place.
