Fire destroys Rasco Building

A fire tore through the former JC Penney's Building on Monday Oct. 18. The fire was reported shortly after 4 p.m. The building contains two murals including the one for the Standin' on the Corner Park. The park was undamaged but the fire caused structural damage to the building. The front wall (facing Second Street) collapsed. The fire also damaged electrical wires but no one was injured. Owners were remodeling the building to convert it into space for several retail shops. The owners were also storing personal items.
