Graduation honors

Nicole Nelson, 2004 Valedictorian, from the Tabaaha’ and Pennsylvania Dutch Clans, is the daughter of Alice and Roy Nelson and a member of the Navajo Nation.

Nelson won a full scholarship to Dartmouth where she will study biochemistry and has also been recognized as a National Honor Society member and Lions Club Book Award winner.

Karshannon Gene, 2004 Co-Salutatorian, from the Ma’ii Deesgiizhnii-Kiiyaa’aanii Clans, is the daughter of Sylvia Yazzie and Freddie Gene, and a member of the Navajo Nation.

Gene is a Top Ten Senior and member of the National Honor Society. She won the University of Arizona Discovery Award, Myrtle E. Okey Award and the U of A Achievement Award valued at $9,500. Gene will major in veterinary medicine at U of A.

Daniel O’Connor, 2004 Co-Salutatorian, is of Irish and Assyrian descent and the son of Ann and Dr. Pat O’Connor. He is a Top Ten Senior and member of the National Honor Society. O’Connor won a full scholarship to Notre Dame University worth around $40,000. Notre Dame University has a longstanding history of teaching, research, scholarship and community service.

Audra Walters, 2004 Co-Salutatorian, from the To’aheedliinii-Todich’ii’nii Clans, is the daughter of Roy and Marlene Walters. Walters is a Top Ten Senior and a member of the National Honor Society. She is also the winner of a Dartmouth Scholarship valued at $30,000 and the prestigious Gates Millennium Scholarship. Walters has not yet declared a major for her freshman year at Dartmouth.

Top Ten Seniors

Stevonne Ashley, of the Tapwungwa-Ta’neeszahnii Clans, a member of the Hopi and Navajo tribes and National Honor Society, won a scholarship from Arizona State University.

Jarred Hammons, a member of the Choctaw Tribe and National Honor Society member won a scholarship from Northern Arizona University.

Holly Koemstedt, of German and Swedish descent, a member of National Honor Society, won a scholarship to the U of A. Koemstedt plans on majoring in psychology.

Kyril Nockideneh, of the Tachii’nii-Kiiyaa’aanii Clans from the Navajo Nation and member of National Honor Society, won a scholarship from NAU and plans to major in fine arts.

Kyna Paddock, of the Kiyaa’aannii-Tl’izilani Clans, from the Navajo Nation and member of National Honor Society, won a scholarship to U of A and will major in history and archeology.

Ashley Stewart, member of the National Honor Society, won a scholarship to ASU and will major in engineering.
