Lady Bulldogs 7, Globe 0 at State

The Winslow Lady Bulldogs opened play in the Arizona 3A Conference State Softball Tournament with a 7-0 victory over the Globe Lady Tigers in Phoenix on May 7. The results of this game were not reported in a timely manner due to a computer malfunction. Winslow lost a heart-breaker to the Safford Lady Bulldogs the next day in an eight inning affair in which the only run of the game scored on Winslow’s only error of the tournament. Winslow had missed a golden scoring opportunity in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Lady Bulldogs finished the season with an impressive 27-7 record.

Juliet Sullenberger worked all 15 innings of tournament play, getting credit for the win (her 17th) and the loss (her fourth). She did not allow an earned run in the tournament.

Globe did not have a base-runner reach third base and managed only two hits off Sullenberger. She fanned seven, walked two and hit two in the contest. Safford managed five hits off her as she fanned one and walked two.

Winslow scored its first two runs against Globe in the bottom of the fourth inning on singles by Sarah Ragnoli, Sullenberger and Amanda Wilcox and a Globe error.

The Lady Bulldogs put the contest out of sight in the bottom of the fifth on singles by Shaleen Miller, Tessa Ramsey, Nicole Curnutte, Rae Cutfinger and Wilcox and a double by Brianna Conatser.

All nine Winslow girls hit safely led by Wilcox who was two for three. Ramsey and Curnutte were each two for four. Miller, Quintina Begay, Cutfinger, Sullenberger and Conatser were all one for three. Ragnoli was one for four.
