Task Force to form Ad Hoc committees

During the regularly scheduled Intoxicated Street People Task Force meeting on Tuesday, April 20, members voted to form four individual committees to review the top five solutions and offer recommendations to the Winslow City Council, based on those five solutions.

They determined that the top five solutions are:

· Support efforts to create a shelter/rehab/detox center;

· Build a coalition with other border towns to develop a regional solution;

· Purchase liquor licenses from some businesses;

¥ Solicit money from the tribes and from grants, and

¥ Get-tough policies.

The task force passed a clipboard around and members volunteered for the committees they were most interested in. The four committees are scheduled to meet and find out information necessary to present to the City Council. They have yet to set a timeline for completion of this work.

Also during the meeting, task force member Ursula Baker gave a short presentation on the Indian Health Services (IHS) plan. The presentation was an overall picture of future services in Winslow that would be available to intoxicated street people.

The task forceÕs next meeting will be Tuesday, May 4, at the Winslow Fire Department Board room. The Bread of Life Mission is scheduled to be on the agenda to give a short presentation of its shelter in Holbrook.
