Lady Bulldogs win 3A<br>North Region tourney

The Winslow Lady Bulldogs ended their regular season with a 24-6 record for the season and a perfect 7-0 record in the 3A North Region. The Lady Bulldogs will be in action on Friday at 2 p.m. in Winslow in the semi-finals of the 3A North Region Tournament against an opponent to be determined by earlier tournament play on Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the Lady Bulldogs came from behind to edge Blue Ridge 9-7 at Lakeside in a non-conference game. The win gave Winslow a 22-6 record for the season.

Juliet Sullenberger got the win in relief of Brianna Conatser. Sullenberger is 13-3 for the season. She allowed one unearned run on three hits, hit a batter and struck out one in 3 2/3 innings. Conatser was the victim of a series of Winslow errors, allowing six runs, only two of which were earned on four hits. She walked one, hit one and struck out two in 3 1/3 innings.

Winslow scored two runs in the first inning on a walk, a single by Sarah Ragnoli and an error. Blue Ridge took a 6-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth on three doubles, a single, a walk, a hit batsman, a poor fielderÕs choice and three costly errors.

Winslow cut the margin to 6-4 in the fifth on two walks and singles by Nicole Curnutte and Sullenberger.

Blue Ridge made it 7-4 in the bottom of the frame on a single and an error.

Winslow took the lead for good in the top of the sixth on singles by Rae Cutfinger, Tessa Ramsey and Ragnoli and doubles by Kathy Taylor and Sullenberger to plate four runs. The final run scored in the seventh on a single by Shaleen Miller and a triple by Conatser.

Curnutte and Ragnoli were two for three. Conatser and Sullenberger were two for four with Conatser having a triple and Sullenberger a double. Ramsey and Miller were one for three. Taylor had a double in four trips and Cutfinger was also one for four.

On Friday, the Lady Bulldogs clinched the regular season championship in the 3A North Region by defeating Window Rock 5-0. The Lady Scouts had been previously undefeated in the region.

Juliet Sullenberger pitched a three hit shutout, fanning seven batters and not issuing any free passes. It was her 14th victory against only three losses.

Nicole Curnutte had two triples in three trips to the plate. Rae Cutfinger had a double and a single in three trips.

Brianna Conatser had a double in three trips. Shaleen Miller was one for two. Tessa Ramsey, Amanda Wilcox and Sullenberger were all one for three. Kathy Taylor was one for four.

Winslow took a 1-0 lead in the second on a single by Ramsey and doubles by Conatser and Cutfinger. A four run fifth inning gave the Lady Bulldogs breathing room. Cutfinger singled, Miller was safe on a fielderÕs choice and TaylorÕs single loaded the bases. Sullenberger singled home the first run after two were out, Wilcox singled home another and two scored on Window RockÕs only error of the game.

On Saturday, Winslow edged the Pinon Lady Eagles 4-1 at Pinon behind Brianna Conatser. Conatser allowed one run on four hits and three walks.

She fanned seven in picking up her sixth win against no losses.

Conatser was three for four at the plate including a double and a triple. Juliet Sullenberger was also three for four. Quintana Begay was one for one. Sarah Ragnoli was one for three with a triple. Amanda Wilcox was also one for three.

The game was scoreless for three innings before Sullenberger singled and scored on RagnoliÕs two out triple. Ragnoli scored on a Pinon error for a 2-0 Winslow lead.

The margin became 4-0 in the fifth on a walk, ConatserÕs triple and another Sullenberger single. Pinon scored in the bottom of the seventh on a triple and a ground out.
