Bulldogs Win Pair before Break

The Winslow Bulldogs won a pair of non-conference baseball games before beginning their spring break. On Friday, the Bulldogs defeated Flagstaff 13-10, and then defeated Holbrook 8-1 on Saturday. The wins left the Bulldogs with a record of 11-7-1 at the approximate mid-point of the season.

Fernando Lopez got the win against Flagstaff as he allowed nine runs, only two of which were earned, on 10 hits. He fanned six and did not walk a batter. Matt Oso worked an inning in relief and allowed a run on two hits. He fanned one.

Winslow scored its 13 runs on only eight hits and led comfortably most of the way after the first inning. Flagstaff had a brief 3-0 lead in the top of the first, but Winslow rallied and led 5-3 going into the second and was never headed again.

Lopez had a home run and a double in three trips to the plate. Nathan Garner had a home run in two at bats. Jordan Payne was two for four with a triple. Lambert Dixson was one for one. Pierre Arossa was one for two with a double. Matt Oso was one for four.

Lambert Dixson was within an out of pitching a no-hitter in Winslow’s 8-1 win over Holbrook on Saturday. He finished 6 2/3 innings of work allowing three unearned runs on one hit and four walks.

He fanned seven. Dixson left with a blister on his pitching hand. Matt Oso worked a third of an inning and had a walk and a strike-out.

Lucas Armenta was a perfect three for three for the Bulldogs. Fernando Lopez had a double and a home run in four trips. Nathan Garner had a double in two trips. Jordan Payne was two for four. Daniel Bailon was one for one. George Vasquez was one for two. Mike Soehner was one for three.

The Bulldogs will entertain the Greyhills Knights on Tuesday in their first 3A North Region contest. Winslow will then host Blue Ridge on Wednesday in a non-conference game and journey to Polacca to face the Hopi Bruins on Thursday, May 8 in another 3A North game.
