Alcoholism Awareness March scheduled for Winslow streets

Winslow will soon take part in an ÒAlcoholism Awareness March,Ó scheduled to take place on April 3 through the downtown city streets.

The march was organized by Mayor Candidate, Robert Carr, who hopes to bring awareness to the public about the seriousness of alcohol problems that plague our city streets.

ÒThe effects of alcohol are visible to the eye here in Winslow. It is a problem that has exist in the heart of Winslow for a number of years. There is a serious issue here and it needs to be addressed with solid solutions to combat the problems we see here in Winslow,Ó said Carr.

The march is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. in the parking lot across from Community First Bank and will proceed on Third Street heading west. The marchers will turn off onto Alfred Street and then turn onto Second Street heading east to Pope Street where they will march to the city park where a rally will take place.

ÒThis is a huge problem which I hold dear to my heart, I thought and thought and finally decided to address this issue. I wanted to do something that would bring the community as a whole to address this most important issue,Ó said Carr.

Guests of honor include; Navajo County Supervisor, Jesse Thompson, Navajo Delegates and Miss Navajo Nation, Marla Billey.

Other guests may include; Navajo Nation President, Joe Shirley, Arizona State Senator, Albert Hale, and Navajo Nation Department of Behavioral Heath Services, Herman Largo and Hopi Tribe Chairman, Wayne Taylor.

Carr hopes people will come together and march for this very serious cause.
