Lady Bulldog maul Round Valley in semis

The Winslow Lady Bulldogs used a stifling defense and cruised past the defending Arizona State 3A Champion Round Valley Lady Elks 58-29 in the semi-finals of the 2004 Arizona State 3A Conference Championship Tournament in Phoenix on Friday. Winslow improved to 29-2 for the season. Round Valley finished its season 28 - 4.

Winslow held Round Valley to three free throws in the first period and led 17-3 after the quarter. The Lady Elks did not score a field goal until the final 20 seconds of the first half and trailed 34-9 at the intermission.

Lindsey Begaii led a balanced Winslow attack with 12 points. Levyna Ben was also in double figures for the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points. Stephanie Garnett tallied nine for the victors. Ashton LeSueur led all scorers with 13 points for Round Valley, but most came long after the contest was decided.

The victory had to be sweet for the Lady Bulldogs and Coach Don Petranovich as Winslow demolished the team that had eliminated them in the 2003 tournament in a most convincing fashion.
