All in a day’s work

We are here to keep those in power responsible for their decisions and to keep the people they are governing from becoming complacent.

For the past few weeks, we have seen a few editorials by Ms. Cressent Buckles, reporter for the Winslow Mail, that have done just that.

We have had people respond to those editorials, both positively and negatively; but, the important thing is that we have had people respond!

I’ve had people write, call and email me agreeing and disagreeing with what has graced our pages.

I know, now, that people do care about the issues raised. The people of Winslow do have an opinion about how the City of Winslow should handle the problem of intoxicated street people and they’ll tell you, if you’ll listen.

In the case of last week’s editorial focusing on the Intoxicated Street People Task Force, Ms. Buckles ruffled the feathers of a few important birds in town.

Was the public, vocal rebuttal she received warranted? I’m not so sure.

Buckles did her job to the “T”. She presented facts and, from those facts, formed her own opinion, an opinion she is entitled to.

She then expressed that opinion, mainly that the Intoxicated Street People Task Force needed to appoint a chairperson and begin to take a more active role in their meetings, in order to make people aware of the goingson of that group.

Boy, did it raise awareness!

As a newspaper, we love to receive opinions submitted by our readers. It lets us know that our hard work is not in vain and that people are reading our papers. It also lets us know that our readers are willing to take an active role in the functioning of Winslow.

This page full of editorials and Letters to the Editor made my week.

Speaking your mind about issues that affect you is every persons right. If there is something you want to vent about, feel free to write an editorial or submit a Letter to the Editor.

We’ll never know what you’re thinking if you don’t use your voice.
