City officials take oath of office

Newly re-appointed, Mayor Jim Boles and Councilman Robin Boyd joined newly elected council members Peter Cake and Judy Howell in a special City Council meeting held Tuesday, June 1. Linda Sampson, who serves as Winslow’s City Clerk, swore Boles, Boyd, Cake and Howell into office.

Cake and Howell join Harold Soehner, Maribelle Ogilvie and Delores Rodriguez as council members.

Councilman Harold Soehner was appointed to the position of vice-mayor.

Boles said that it was an honor to have been re-elected.

“Being re-elected tells me the citizens are satisfied with my leadership abilities and I look forward to continue to serve the citizens of Winslow,” Boles said.

Incumbent Councilman Robin Boyd said he too felt it was an honor to be re-elected, and looks forward to the year’s upcoming projects.

Newly appointed Councilwoman Judy Howell said that she is prepared to serve as councilwoman.

“I have been attending City Council meetings regularly for the last five years and will continue to listen to the community’s concerns,” Howell stated.

Newly appointed Peter Cake said he would try to do everything humanly possible to bring the citizens of Winslow together with the City.

“I hope we can all work together without conflict,” Cake said. “If a conflict should arise, I hope to be able to work through it.”

The Council held their last regularly scheduled meeting on May 25 in the Council Chambers and approved the following on the consent calendar:

• A one year extension of a contract for City Engineering Service to Woodson Engineering.

• Transfer of funds in the amount of $2,000 and the purchase of a boxcar to be used as part of the downtown redevelopment.

• Payment of $152,970 to International Surfacing Systems Inc. to be used for 1,390,640 square feet of chip seal to various city streets.

• The award of a construction contract to McCauley Construction for first phase of the Winslow Renaissance Project.

• Payment of $2,000 for the alley closure from Williamson Avenue to Kinsley Avenue between Fourth Street and Aspinwall Street.

• Purchase of $46,272.96 for payment for a drainage pipe and manholes for the Pope Avenue Channel.

• Payment of $3,275 to The Cyber Pros to move telephone equipment from the old communications tower to the new communications tower located at the new Municipal Complex.

• Payment of $4,000 to E-Group for construction administration for the first phase of the Downtown Redevelopment Project.

The Council approved and adopted Ordinance No. 946 Amending the Winslow City Code, Title 6, regarding animals within the city limits.

Also approved was Resolution No. 1286, which allows an Intergovernmental Agreement between City and Arizona Department of Transportation for La Posada Hotel Phase III Garden Renovations.

Resolution No. 1285, allowing for the adoption of a residential anti-displacement and relocation assistance plan, was approved.

The council also approved and accepted the canvas of votes and election returns for the General Election held in the City of Winslow on May 18, 2004.

The Council held their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, June 8.
