Former Winslow woman receives United States Naval commission

“Some of my family was scared and didn’t want me to join the reserves, but I know in time they will know I made the right choice,” said Quoshena.

Over fifty of Quoshena’s family and friends gathered together on Saturday to watch Quoshena recieve her commision from her commanding naval officer Lt. Steven Millard.

During the ceremony Quoshena raised her right hand and swore to protect her country from enimies foreign and domestic at all times.

After she received her commision her parents, Orson and Aurora, pinned her new tan uniform with her commision naval pins.

Her parents both said they were very proud to have a daughter who wants to share her talents as a nurse for the freedom of her country.

After the ceremony family and friends gathered for a celebration dinner.

Quoshena will return to Gallup where she will be stationed.

She said she soon hopes to join the Navy as an active duty officer after she takes care of prior obligations.

Lt. Millard said he was very proud of Quoshena for making the decision to serve her country.
