55th Navajo Marketplace awes visitors

The 55th Annual Navajo Marketplace, held August 7 and 8, proved once again to be a crowd-pleaser.

This year’s featured artist was Shonto Begay, whose work was prominently featured in the Donald Ware Waddell Special Exhibits Gallery.

Tammy Begay and Ralph Jim of Rough Rock were on hand to demonstrate the creation of cradleboards.

A popular feature of this year’s Marketplace was the traditional food demonstration hosted by Ida Yazzie of Chinle. Blue cornmeal mush and fry bread were just two of the favorites. Diners were serenaded by the strolling performances of Clarence Clearwater, noted Navajo folk singer.
