The Winslow Bulldogs baseball team is ringing down the curtain on the regular season with a perfect 6-0 record in the 3A North Region and a 17-8-1 record for the season. The Bulldogs were slated to host Blue Ridge in a non-conference game on Monday. Winslow will not play again until 2 p.m. on Friday in the semi-finals of the 3A North Region Tournament at Vargas Field. The Bulldogs have assured themselves of a berth in the Arizona State 3A Tournament beginning on May 7 in Phoenix with games on May 8, 14 and 15 as well in the single elimination event.
Winslow lost its next to the last non-conference game of the season on Wednesday in Blue Ridge as the Yellowjackets prevailed 12-6. Michael Soehner took the loss, giving up eight runs on eight hits and one walk in 2 1/3 innings. He fanned one. Lambert Dixson gave up four runs in 3 2/3 innings in relief. He gave up six hits, walked five and fanned three.
Jordan Payne and Fernando Lopez led the Bulldogs at the plate with three for four performances. Nathan Garner was two for three with a triple. Lucas Armenta was one for three with a triple.
On Friday, the Bulldogs clinched the 3A North Region regular season title with a 10-0 win over the Window Rock Scouts at Winslow. Alex Richards held the Scouts scoreless on three hits. He fanned five and did not walk a batter.
Nathan Garner was two for three with a pair of doubles. Jordan Payne was also two for three with a double. Richards helped his own cause with a two for three day at the plate. Anthony Martinez was one for one. Josh Stago was one for two with a double. Matt Oso was one for three with a triple.
On Saturday, Winslow defeated Pinon 15-1 at Pinon to complete the regular season undefeated in regional play. Matt Oso got the win, giving up one run on one hit. He walked two and struck out 10 Eagles. Alan Duran worked the final inning of the contest which was shortened to five innings on the ÒmercyÓ rule. He did not allow a run while giving up two hits and fanning a batter.
Lucas Armenta was three for three with two doubles and a triple. George Vasquez was two for two with a double. Jordan Payne was also two for two. Duran was one for one. Josh Stago was one for one. Michael Soehner was one for one with a double. Jonah Budka, Pierre Arossa and Quinton Oso were all one for two.
