Over 55 vintage cars, including a Bentley, Maserati, Rolls Royce, Ferrari, and Jaguar filled the parking lot of La Posada last Tuesday, as members of the 14th annual Bell Lexus Cooperstate 1000 rallye took a brief pit stop for lunch.
Michael Hammer of Arm & Hammer was one of the participants in the rallye. His car was an impressive green 1927, 4.5 liter, Bentley, Lemones. Hammer said he was really impressed with the La Posada and the hospitality of the people he met from Winslow.
While at La Posada the group enjoyed a historical tour of the hotel by owner, Allen Affeldt. From La Posada, the group headed over to Kinsley Avenue where they stood Òon the corner in Winslow, ArizonaÓ before leaving town.
The rallye was organized by the Phoenix Art MuseumÕs MenÕs Arts Council as a fundraiser. For the last 13 years, the museum has raised over $600,000.
The rallye began on Sunday, April 18, as drivers departed from Phoenix and headed to Payson, Show Low and then onto Pinetop-Lakeside where they spent the night. On Monday, the group visited Springerville, Eager and Alpine. Tuesday the group stopped in Snowflake, Holbrook and Winslow. Wednesday the group traveled to Sedona and then on to Phoenix where the rallye ended.
