Lady Bulldogs 3-1 for Week, Undefeated in Region
The Winslow Lady Bulldogs softball team won three 3A North Region games and lost a non-conference game to Show Low. The results left Winslow with a 21-6 record for the season and a perfect 5-0 in the region.
On Tuesday, April 13, the Lady Bulldogs blanked the Monument Valley Lady Mustangs 5-0 in a 3A North Region game played at Winslow. The win allowed Winslow to improve its record to 19-5 for the season and 3-0 in the region.
Juliet Sullenberger recorded her 10th win against two losses. She held the Lady Mustangs to a pair of singles while striking out three and not issuing a walk. The Winslow defense played flawlessly behind her.
Winslow took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on singles by Kathy Taylor, Shaleen Miller, Amanda Wilcox and Nicole Curnutte. The margin grew to 4-0 in the fifth on a walk and TaylorÕs second hit of the game. The final run scored in the bottom of the sixth on a hit batsman, an error, a single by Tessa Ramsey and a bases loaded walk.
Taylor led Winslow at the plate with a two for two performance. Wilcox and Rae Cutfinger were each one for two. Sullenberger and Curnutte were each one for three and Ramsey was one for four.
On Wednesday, Winslow failed to hold a 7-3 lead in the final two innings and lost a non-conference game to Show Low 8-7 in Show Low. Juliet Sullenberger took the loss, allowing nine of the 12 hits against her and seven runs in the final three innings. She fanned four and did not walk a batter. The loss left her with a record of 10-3 and the team with a record of 19-6 for the season.
Kathy Taylor led Winslow at the plate with two hits in three trips. Kaylee Salazar was one for one. Sarah Ragnoli was one for two. Sullenberger had a double in three trips. Shaleen Miller and Rae Cutfinger were also one for three. Brianna Conatser had a double in four trips to the plate.
The Lady Bulldogs got back on the winning side of the ledger on Thursday with a 26-4 romp over Ganado on the Lady HornetsÕ home field. Sullenberger and Conatser shared the pitching duties and their teammates cracked out 21 hits.
Conatser led the Winslow hit parade by hitting for the cycle. She had a triple, double and a home run in her first three appearances. After a line-out to right, she lined a ball off the left field wall in her final plate appearance but stopped at first to preserve the extremely rare cycle feat.
Nicole Curnutte was perfect at the plate with a four for four performance. Sullenberger was also perfect at three for three with a double and a home run. Sarah Ragnoli was four for five with a home run. Arsenia Pacheco was two for three. Ray Cutfinger and Anna Pacheco were each one for two with Pacheco having a double. Shaleen Miller was one for three.
On Saturday, Winslow defeated Tuba City 11-4 in a 3A North Region game played at Winslow. Juliet Sullenberger got her 12th win against three losses. She allowed four unearned runs on just two hits. She walked four, hit a batter and fanned seven Lady Warriors. The Winslow defense committed seven errors which figured in the scoring.
Sarah Ragnoli led the Lady Bulldogs at the plate with a double and a triple in three trips to the plate. Tessa Ramsey was also two for three. Shaleen Miller had a double in two trips. Brianna Conatser was also one for two. Sullenberger and Rae Cutfinger were both one for three.
