United States Congressman Rick Renzi visits Winslow

A Winslow Town Hall meeting took place last Thursday with U.S. Congressman Rick Renzi. Renzi spoke about Iraq and the good things our tax dollars have done for the Iraqi people.

ÒIraqi children have $72 million new textbooks and 6,400 teachers, 5,000 principals and school administrators all possible because of the United States taxpayers like you,Ó said Renzi.

Renzi went on to tell the following story: ÒA teacher from Iraq sent me a letter and she said how thankful she was that America saved the Iraqi children from Saddam HusseinÕs regime. She said before America came she taught out of a book that had a picture of Saddam in the book and education was only taught under the power of Saddam. The letter went on to say that she remembered after the American soldiers came and started liberating the Iraqi people she told her students to rip out the picture of Saddam.Ó

Renzi also spoke highly about the United States soldiers who have bravely fought to help liberate the Iraqi people.

Tax relief and economic growth was another topic Renzi spoke briefly about. He said small business expansion leads to new jobs and said tax relief brings opportunity for expansion to local businesses.

He also talked about Medicare and said that all Americans should have medical coverage. He believes all senior citizens should have a choice to participate in Medicare plans that provide prescription coverage.

Education was a topic that Renzi said he was proud of due to the fact that he successfully secured $1.5 million for Arizona schools. He also secured $90 million for Head Start, which he said would help stimulate young students to become more educated by the time they reached reading age.

He also spoke about Arizona forests and said a huge timber extraction of burned trees was scheduled to take place in the Apache-Sitgreaves Forest. He also said he has secured $11 million for forest clean up.
