Bruins boys & girls cross country nail 3rd in Flag<br>

FLAGSTAFF — Hopi High School’s girls and boys cross country teams both placed third at the Peaks Invitational held Sept. 6 at Buffalo Park in Flagstaff.

Hopi High had the highest finish of any reservation school in both races. Thirty-one teams competed in the girls race and 35 teams in the boys race.

Girls results

In the girls race, Desert Vista High School from Phoenix won the meet with 73 points, Flagstaff High School grabbed second with 117 and Hopi placed third with 121. In cross country, the team with the lowest score wins.

Tuba City High School took fourth place with 209 points.

The other area schools competing were Chinle, ninth place, 322 points; Window Rock, tenth, 327; Winslow, 11th, 330; Alchesay, 13th, 370; Monument Valley, 15th, 399; Page 23rd, 541; Flagstaff-Sinagua, 25th, 570; Pinon, 27th, 715. Holbrook, 30th, 807.

Keara Sammons from Desert Vista High was the individual winner in the 221 runner race. Hopi’s Kelsy Hardt placed seventh.

The rest of the Hopi runners were: Tracy Honani, 14th; Iva Sahneyah, 27th; Jackie Rivers, 33rd; Ingrid Lomawaima, 46th; Rozanna Nasafotie, 108th; and Marlena Salina, 121st.

The Tuba City High runners were: Brandi Atene, 18th; Brianna Little, 24th; Holly Koehmstedt, 46th; Sasha Hatathlie, 60th; Jessica Tsingine, 74th; Henrietta Mann, 97th; and Kirsten Nelson, 106th.

The other area runners who performed well were: Annie Falor, Flagstaff, third; Amber Gordon, Flagstaff, ninth; Samantha Hatch, Sinagua, 10th; Janeen Yazzie, Winslow, 13th; Merry Placer, Flagstaff, 15th; Tiffany Sorrell, Window Rock, 19th; Charmayne Sandoval, Monument Valley, 23rd; Calah Schlabach, St. Michaels, 29th; Sarah Goldberg, Flagstaff, 31st; Jennifer Watson, Coconino, 43rd; and Danalynn Cook, Chinle, 50th.

Boys results

In the boys race, Catalina Foothills from Tucson took first with 71 points, Page grabbed second with 99, Hopi finished third with 170, Chinle placed fourth with 177.

The other area schools placing were: Flagstaff, fifth, 213; Coconino High School, sixth, 276; Tuba City, ninth, 353; Winslow, 11th, 378; Window Rock, 12th, 388; St. Michaels, 27th, 631; Sinagua, 29th, 636; Monument Valley, 31st, 722; Pinon, 32nd, 808; and Holbrook, 33rd, 821.

Justin Langdon from Mountain Ridge High School took first place in this 236 runner race. Leif Lomeland from Page placed second, 4.3 seconds behind Langdon. Stet Lomayestewa from Hopi grabbed fourth place.

The other Bruins were: Matthew Honanie, 24th; Travis Sahneyah, 31st; Aaron Johnson, 52nd; Cornell Tungovia, 68th; Jaynas Saufkie, 86th; and Lindsey Wise, 110th.

The other runners for Page were: Nathan Lee, 17th; Josh Bryant, 19th; Mack Zahne, 30th; Derrick Williams 36th; and Donovan Tsinnijinnie, 38th.

The other area runners who performed well were: Eric Bahe, Chinle, seventh; Chad Guthrey, Coconino, 10th; Jason Rande, Sinagua, 11th; Kevin Bahe, Chinle, 12th;
