WHS Cross Country Teams Won Blue Ridge Invitational

The Winslow High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams both came up winners in the Blue Ridge Invitational Meet on Sept. 27.

The Winslow boys won with a low total of 36 points to 39 for second place Payson and 117 for third place Globe. Sophomore Andrew Taliman led Winslow with a third place finish. Senior Ferral Williams was fourth. Junior Joseph Ricks finished sixth. Freshman Valentine Castruita was 14th and sophomore Derek Schultz was 15th.

The Winslow girls won their meet with a low total of 41 points. Round Valley was second with 48 and Alchesay finished third with 73 points. Sophomore Janeen Yazzie led Winslow with a third place finish. Senior Larissa Bratt was sixth. Junior Karla Curley finished eighth. Freshmen Brittany Begay and Chaunesea Singer finished 11th and 13th respectively.

Since that meet and press time the teams will have competed in the Winslow Invitational on Oct. 3 and the Doug Conley Invitational in Tempe on Oct. 4.

The teams will compete in a dual meet with Round Valley in Eagar today (Oct. 8).

The next meet will be the Coconino Invitational at Flagstaff on Saturday.
