Nick Anderson and Spencer Prosser get their hands on the Holbrook Quarterback for one of the night’s sacks.
Vargas scored on a six-yard run with 1:11 left until intermission to end the first half scoring. The two point conversion attempt failed and Winslow took a 13-0 lead to the locker room.
Jordan Payne delivered a crushing blow to the Roadrunners by returning the second half kick-off 85 yards for a touchdown. Jeremiah Johnson ran for the two point conversion and a 21-0 Bulldog lead.
Johnson passed nine yards to Armenta with 6:25 left in the third period. The two point conversion attempt failed and Winslow led 27-0.
Holbrook escaped a threat by taking the ball on their two yard line, then scored on a 98-yard run by John Quin. The two point conversion was good on a pass from Michael Watson to Chris Castillo and Winslow’s lead was down to 27-8 entering the fourth quarter.
Adrian Smith ran 18 yards with 8:44 left in the game to give Winslow a 33-8 lead. The conversion pass failed.
Vargas ended the scoring with a five-yard run. The conversion pass was incomplete and the 39-8 final score was on the boards.
The Bulldogs got quality running games from Vargas, Quezada and Warren Prosser and solid defensive efforts from John Sullivan, Spencer Prosser and the bulk of the defensive line and linebackers.
Winslow also defeated Holbrook on Thursday in the junior varsity game 36-6 and in the freshman game 32-0.
The Bulldogs will open their defense of the 3A North Championship on Friday when they host the Tuba City Warriors.
