WHS Girls Track take top spot at Regional meet, Boys place third<br>Freshman Stephanie Garnett named Athlete of Meet

The Winslow High School girls’ track team won the 3A North Regional Meet at Kayenta on May 9. Stephanie Garnett garnered “Athlete of the Meet” honors by winning four events. The Winslow boys’ team finished third. Other team results were not available.

Garnett picked up first place finishes in the 100-meter dash, the high jump, the long jump and the triple jump.

Carlos Quezada paced the Winslow boys with first place finishes in the 110 meter and 300 meter hurdles. He also ran on the first place 1600 meter relay team with Jeremiah Johnson, Efrem Yazzie and Orlando Vargas and on the second place 400 meter relay team with Johnson, Nick Anderson and Vargas.

Larissa Bratt won a pair of first places in the 200-meter dash and the 400 meter dash. She also ran on the first place 400 meter relay team with Nicole Buonviri, Debra Hancock and Jodi Wybron and the first place 1600 meter relay team with Joanna Black, Hancock and Janeen Yazzie.

Tricia Foster won the girls’ pole vault and was third in the triple jump.

The girls’ 3200 meter relay team of Joanna Black, Heather Johnson, Kelly Saganey and Janeen Yazzie also won their event.

Debra Hancock was second in the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash.

Kelly Saganey was second in the 1600 meters, third in the 1600 meters and fourth in the 400 meter dash.

Mark Rostedt was second in the 800 meters and ran on the second place 3200 meter relay team.

Jeremiah Johnson was second in the pole vault.

Nicole Buonviri was third in the 100-meter dash and the pole vault.

Heather Johnson was third in the 1600 meters.

Joanna Black was third in the 800 meters.

Orlando Vargas was third in the long jump.

Keshia Tseda was third in the discus.

Ashley Chee was third in the shot put.

Efrem Yazzie was fourth in the 400 meters.

Charles Gover was fourth in the 300-meter hurdles.

Billy Wilcox was fourth in the 800 meters.

Winslow athletes who qualified competed in the Arizona State 3A Track and Field Meet in Phoenix on Saturday. That was the last meet for these athletes as a team. Results will be published when available.
