Winslow Bulldogs 3-0 in Region

The game was essentially over in the first inning as the Bulldogs scored 11 runs on seven hits, three walks, a hit batsman and three Ganado errors. Four more runs in the second inning made it 15-0. The Bulldogs had five hits in that frame and the Hornets committed another error. The final two runs scored in the fourth inning on two hits and two hit batsmen.

Lucas Armenta led the Bulldogs attack with three hits in three trips to the plate, two of them home runs and the other a triple, six runs batted in and three scored. Jon Ortiz was two for two with a double and two runs scored. Jordan Payne was two for two with three runs scored and three batted in. Brady McCauley was one for one and knocked in a pair of runs. Steven Martinez was two or three with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and one batted in. Fernando Lopez had a double in two trips to the plate, scored once and knocked in two runs. Andrew Richards was one for two and scored a run. Jeff McCauley was one for two and scored a run.

Winslow 25 Round Valley 1

The Winslow Bulldogs took an easy 25-1 win from the Round Valley Elks in a non-conference baseball game played in Eagar on Wednesday.

Fernando Lopez allowed only two hits to the Elks in the contest which was shortened to five innings due to the “mercy” rule. He fanned three batters and walked a pair.

Winslow took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on singles by Lucas Armenta and Lopez, then broke the game wide open with a 10 run second inning. Nathan Garner and Andrew Richards had home runs in the big inning. Jordan Payne, Lopez and Alex Richards had singles. There were three walks and a Round Valley error.

The third inning was even more of a disaster for the Elks as 14 runs scored to give the Bulldogs a 25-0 lead. Steven Martinez had a double and a single in the frame. Garner clubbed his second homer of the game. Alex and Andrew Richards each had a pair of singles. Lyle Brown and Jon Ortiz singled. There were three walks and three hit batsmen and an error as well.

Round Valley scored its only run in the bottom of the third on two Winslow errors.

Garner was two for two with two home runs and five RBIs. Andrew Richards was three for four with a home run and four RBIs. Martinez was three for four with a double and four RBIs. Alex Richards was three for four with two RBIs. Brown was two for four with four RBIs. Lopez was two for four with three RBIs. Ortiz was one for two with an RBI. Armenta was one for three with an RBI and Payne was also one for three.

Winslow 15 Monument Valley 4

The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the Monument Valley Mustangs 15-4 in a 3A North Region baseball game played at Kayenta on Thursday.

Lambert Dixson got the win for the Bulldogs in relief of Andrew Richards. Richards worked the first two and a third innings, giving up three runs on three hits, walking four and fanning five. Dixson went four and two thirds innings, giving up a run on five hits and two walks. He fanned six Mustang batters.

Winslow opened the game with a five-run first inning to lead 5-0. Steven Martinez and Fernando Lopez doubled. Jon Ortiz blasted a home run. Alex Richards singled and there was a walk and an error.

The Mustangs cut the lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the first on a walk and a double, and then crept to within two runs at 5-3 in the bottom of the third. That rally featured two singles, a walk and a Winslow error.

The Bulldogs scored four times in the top of the fifth to take a 9-3 lead on doubles by Lucas Armenta and Andrew Richards, a single by Lyle Brown, two walks and a hit batsman.

A three run sixth inning gave Winslow a 12-3 lead. Doubles by Jordan Payne and Martinez, a single by Lyle Brown and a hit batsman did the damage.

The margin grew to 15-3 in the top of the seventh on a single by Payne, triples by Armenta and Martinez, a walk and a single by Brown.

The final Monument Valley run scored in the bottom of the seventh on a single, a double and a walk.

Armenta was three for four with a double and a triple and three RBIs. Martinez was three for five with a double, two triples and four RBIs. Brown was three for five with three RBIs. Payne was two for five with a double. Ortiz was one for three with a home run and three RBIs. Dixson was one for three with a double and two RBIs. Lopez was one for three with an RBI. Nathan Garner was one for four with an RBI. Alex Richards was one for four.

At the end of this week’s play, the Bulldogs have a 12-8-1 record for the season and a 3-0 record in the 3A North.
