Petranovich reconsiders - <br>decides to coach one more year
Petranovich finished this season with a regional record of 252-33, including a 145-9 record since 1989. His teams have won four Arizona State Championships, were state runners-up six times and qualified for the state tournament 25 out of 26 years, failing to qualify for that event only during his first year of coaching.
Asked what he considers his most satisfying accomplishment during his career at Winslow High School, Petranovich cited a large (but unspecified) number of girls who have gone on to play at the collegiate level and 16 consecutive seasons in which his teams have won 20 or more games.
He also agreed that the founding of the Winslow Winter Classic Tournament and seeing that event grow to become one of the most prestigious girls’ basketball tournaments in the Southwest had to be one of his more satisfying accomplishments.
The Lady Bulldogs were 24-6 during the 2002-2003 season and were the 3A North Region regular season champions.
]The 2003-2004 season will likely see Petranovich reach the enviable plateau of 600 career wins. He would, undoubtedly, like to garner a fifth state championship in the process.
