A cultural diversity event over Memorial Day weekend took my husband Al and I through the mountains of northern Arizona. As we drove towards Pinetop, I witnessed Mother Nature healing the land devastated in the forest fires of last year. From the car window, I saw small wildflowers springing from the lush green grass.
Seeing the dramatic transformation of the land had me contemplating how much we all have been through in since September 11. It seems that what our world needs now is more beauty, wise words and renewed vision. It is time for a rebirth.
We were on our way to the White Mountains to attend the event that Roger Leslie, General Manager of Hon-Dah Resort Casino and Conference Center, had organized. We were mesmerized by the two days of performances by indigenous dancers. Groups represented Africans, Asians, Aztec, Celtic, Mexicans, Native Americans, Polynesians and Toltec cultures.
For all of our sake, I hope we can be reborn as beautifully as the majestic White Mountains.
