GRAND FALLS — Kim Lohnes refused to send her grandparents to a nursing home, yet she had two young daughters to support. Homebound, she turned to a tradition her own grandmother had been proficient in—beadwork.
Lohnes comes from a rich and talented multicultural heritage. Of Navajo and Lakota ancestry, she carries a degree of German blood as well, reflected in her last name, which she has been given to mean “a great reward.”
