The Seton Catholic Lady Sentinels defeated the Winslow Lady Bulldogs 53-47 in a semi-final game of the Winslow Winter Classic on Dec. 20. The loss left Winslow with a record of 9-3 for the season.
The Lady Sentinels started strong and led 11-6 after the first period. Winslow came back with its best quarter in the second period and had taken a 22-19 lead by the intermission. Seton Catholic had its best quarter in the third frame and led 35-29 going into the final period.
Only four Lady Sentinels scored, but three were in double figures. Alana Wirth led the victors with 18 points. Christina Wirth was close behind with 15 points and Katrina Jax was in double digits with 11 points. Mary Placido had the other eight Seton Catholic points.
Nicole Begaii hit five three point shots and led all scorers with 21 points for Winslow. Lindsey Begaii was also in double figures with 13 points. Heather Johnson scored eight for the Lady Bulldogs.
Seton Catholic made 14 of 19 charity attempts. Winslow was unusually cold at the line, converting only six of 14 attempts.
