Winslow Little League begins 52nd season with Opening Day Celebration

With this year’s players looking on, Little League President Dawn Palen presents Scott Lancaster with a plaque commemorating the 2003 season, which was dedicated to him.

Lancaster is head of the City of Winslow Parks and Recreation Department. He is responsible for the upkeep of the baseball fields.

Palen explained he is also one of those responsible for the new backstop at Vargas Field, which Little League uses after the Winslow High School Baseball season is complete.

Winslow Mayor Jim Boles had the honor of throwing out the first pitch. He hurled the ball to Zach Warner, who plays in the Major Boys division.

The day continued with two games, one Minor Boys baseball and one Major Girls softball.

This year’s Little League season will feature a total of 39 teams.

The board is made up by Palen, Debbie Brown, Corrine Lucero, Sharron Pugh, Kerry Pugh, Darrick Ervien, David Sedillo, Jeff Hancock, Becky Barris, Jimmy Johnson, and Myla Bolton.
