The Winslow Bulldogs scored on their first four possessions on their way to a 55-0 victory over the Greyhills Academy Knights in a game played at Tuba City on Friday. The victory was Winslow’s second in as many contests in both the season and the Enchantment Region. Greyhills lost for the second time in the season and the region.

Steven Martinez led the Bulldogs attack with two running and two passing touchdowns in the first period and one each to start the second period. The senior quarterback passed 23 yards to Orlando Vargas and 32 yards to Lucas Armenta on Winslow’s first two possessions. He passed to Shimeon Mattox for a two-point conversion following the second score. Before the first period had ended, he had also run for touchdowns on jaunts of 37 and one yards. Vargas booted two conversions for a 28-0 Winslow lead after the first quarter.

Martinez found Nolan Horn on a 15 yard scoring pass, then ran 63 yards for Winslow’s first two second period scores. Jeremiah Johnson passed to Carlos Quezada for a two-point conversion following the second score.

Warren Prosser scored the final touchdown of the half on a 14-yard run. The conversion gave the Bulldogs a 49-0 lead.

The Bulldogs did not throw a pass in the second half as they concentrated on running out the clock. The only score came on Prosser’s 26-yard run in the third period.

The Winslow defense was outstanding again in shutting out the Knights.

Winslow will be tested on Friday when they host a highly regarded Snowflake Lobo team, which handed them one of their two regular season losses last season.
