Forest Service urges input on AZ Snowbowl proposal<br>

(EDITOR’S NOTE: The 45-day public comment period on proposed Snowbowl improvements ends Nov. 15.)

One of the most important and sacred places to Navajo and Hopi people, the San Francisco Peaks, has been in the news a lot recently, as the Coconino National Forest has released a proposal for a set of improvements to the Arizona Snowbowl Ski Area. These ideas include suggestions for snowmaking, realigning chairlifts, adding one new chairlift, building a snowplay area and several new ski runs, installing lighting for limited nighttime skiing and modernizing both day lodges. The suggestions also include creating a Native American cultural center, building two hiking trails, redesigning traffic flow at the entrance to the ski area, and combining two parking lots.
