Navjo Nation Corrections Project <br>protects Native American inmates<br>

Window Rock — Present detention facilities on the Navajo Nation pose major problems for the incarceration of prisoners because of inadequate space and personnel according to Lenny Foster, director of the Corrections Project within the Navajo Division of Health’s Department of Behavioral Health Services. He stresses the need for a new detention facility to accommodate the growing Navajo prisoner population.

Foster said that there is a need for rehabilitation including alcohol and abuse counseling, family counseling and access to spiritual counseling both western and traditional spiritual counseling.
