WHS Freshman Nick Anderson tries to escape a crowd of Blue Ridge Yellowjackets on a run attempt.
Blue Ridge returned the ensuing kick-off 66 yards to the Winslow 34, but that threat was short lived. Orlando Vargas intercepted a Yellowjacket pass on the next play. The Bulldogs controlled the ball for most of the half, running 38 plays to only 13 for Blue Ridge and carried the 6-0 margin into the locker room at half time.
Lucas Armenta recovered a Blue Ridge fumble to give Winslow excellent field position early in the third quarter. Horn scored for the second time in the contest on a 20 yard run. Steven Martinez ran for the two-point conversion and the final points of the night.
The shut out was the first suffered by the Yellowjackets since 1987 and their first regular season loss since 1991.
The Bulldogs amassed 268 yards rushing and controlled the ball for most of the contest. Horn led the way with 118 yards. Vargas added 87 and Martinez accounted for 53 yards.
The Winslow defense held Blue Ridge in check and turned away every threat including a late thrust to the Winslow nine yard line.
The Bulldogs will return to conference play on Friday when they host the Ganado Hornets in their Homecoming Game.
