Winslow Golf Wins Big - Heading To State Tourney

The Winslow High School golf team participated in several meets and matches recently.

On April 19, Winslow finished ninth out of 19 teams at the Safford Invitational. On April 22, Winslow finished third in a five-team meet at the White Mountain Country Club at Pinetop. On April 25 and 26, Winslow defeated Holbrook at Holbrook in a seeding purposes match for the only two Enchantment Region (3A North) golf teams.

At Safford, Winslow golfers and their scores included John Pate (39, 41, 45), Bryan Pate (38, 40, 43), Jackie Williams (40, 44, 43), Jesse Hancock (42, 46, 44) and Reed Hancock (46, 47, 45). Coach Ted Pate noted that the last two rounds of the event were played in high winds.

At Pinetop, Winslow golfers and their scores included John Pate 41, Bryan Pate 45, Jackie Williams 46, Reed Hancock 49 and Jesse Hancock 53. There was also a junior varsity match and scores for that match were Zack Watson 54, Bryan John 49, Tommy Hancock 51, Brad Miller 50 and Jeremy Sullenberger 66.

Scores of Winslow golfers at Holbrook on April 25 included Bryan Pate (low individual) 36 (even par), John Pate 40 (second place), Jesse Hancock, Jackie Williams and Reed Hancock 46. Holbrook scores included Doug Hatch 42 (third place), Nick Perkins, Daniel Pecotte and Nick Larson 46. The final rounds were played on April 26 in 40 miles per hour winds. John Pate was the low individual with scores of 37, 42 and 40. Bryan Pate was second with scores of 46, 44 and 38. Third place went to Daniel Pecotte of Holbrook with scores of 39, 43 and 43. Jesse Hancock was fourth with scores of 40,48 and 47. Reed Hancock was fifth with scores of 49, 43 and 46. Jackie Williams finished sixth with scores of 45, 47 and 46.

The next action for the Winslow golf team will be at the Arizona State 3A Tournament at Wickenburg, which starts today (May 8) and ends on Thursday.
