WHS Track Teams Won 4-Team Meets

The Winslow High School boys and girls’ track teams both won four-team meets held at Winslow on Wednesday. Winslow won the boys’ meet with a total of 130.5 points, followed by Coconino (61), Ganado (32) and Camp Verde (22.5). The girls won with a total of 114 followed by Coconino (52). Ganado and Camp Verde tied with 41 points each.

Winslow teams won all six relay races and finished first second and third in six different events. Those events were the boys’ 1600 meters (Steve Hancock, Mark Rostedt and Paul Ricks), pole vault (Nick Patton, Spencer, Ron Hoover), 3200 meters (Lawrence Watson, Billy Wilcox and Rostedt), the girls’ triple jump (Stephanie Garnett, Jackie Foster and Shaunte Cleveland), high jump (Garnett, Heather Johnson and Jodie Wybron) and long jump (Garnett, Foster and Jenna Adams).

Events won by Winslow girls included the 100-meter hurdles by Katie Koll with Amy Lee fifth, the discus by Foster with Michelle Francis seconds, the pole vault by Koll and the shot put by Foster.

Events won by Winslow boys included the 100 meters by Anthony Carter with Nathan Horn fifth, the 300 meter hurdles by Charles Gover with Mark Koll fifth, the 800 meters by Steve Hancock with Dustin Taylor fourth, the 400 meters by Efrem Yazzie with Chris Robertson third, the triple jump by Carter with Dustin Taylor fourth, the long jump by Carter with Orlando Vargas fourth and the high jump by Carlos Quezada.

Events in which the best Winslow did was second included the boys 110 meter hurdles in which Gover was second and Shimeon Mattox was fourth, the girls 400 meters in which Bratt was second and Wybron fifth and the 3200 meters in which Heather Johnson was second.

Events in which Winslow’s best finish was third included the girls 100 meters where Adams was third and Garnett fifth, the 200 meters in which Debra Hancock was third, the boys 200 meters in which Vargas was second and Gover was fourth and the shot put in which Jim Curnutte.

Curnutte finished fourth in the discus with Nez finishing fifth.
