Lady Bulldogs Defeat Chino Valley - 'Dogs Fall

The Winslow Lady Bulldogs defeated the Chino Valley Lady Cougars 12-2 in a non-conference softball game played at Chino Valley on March 5. Winslow improved its record to 2-2 with the victory.

Kim Garcia clubbed a grand slam homer in the top of the third inning to cap a rally that gave the Lady Bulldogs a 7-0 lead. Sara Ragnoli started the rally with a single. Danee Estudillo’ double was the only other hit in the inning which also featured four walks and a Chino Valley error.

Daphne Barton went the distance for the victory in the contest, which was shortened, to five innings due to the mercy rule. Barton held the Lady Cougars to seven hits. She struck out six and did not issue a walk.

Winslow cracked out nine hits and drew eight walks. Ragnoli and Erica Armenta were the leading hitters going two for two for the Lady Bulldogs.

Joanna Panana was two for three and JoDawn White had a triple in two trips. Garcia was one for two with her homer and Estudillo was one for four with her double. The Chino Valley Cougars defeated the Winslow Bulldogs 13-5 in a non-conference baseball game played at Chino Valley on March 5. The loss left the Bulldogs with a 2-5 record.

The Cougars scored 10 runs in the first inning on just four hits. The Bulldogs were their own worst enemies in the field as they committed five costly errors in the frame. Cougar left fielder Hixon had a grand slam homer in the first and a two-run shot in the third to account for much of the Chino Valley scoring.

The Bulldogs hit the ball well, cracking out 10 base hits. Nathan Garner and Lucas Armenta were each two for three. Michael Beeson was two for four with a home run. Fernando Lopez was also two for four. Seth Davis was one for three and Steven Martinez was one for four.
