Walk/Run aimed at diabetes awareness

The Winslow Indian Health Services center sponsored the “Just Move It” Fun Walk/Run to raise awareness about diabetes.

The walk/run, which has been held all over the Navajo reservation, was to illustrate how walking is a healthy addition to one’s life.

About 70 people showed up for the walk/run. The runners broke out early, while the walkers enjoyed a slower pace. There were young and old walkers, even one youngster getting a ride in a stroller.

The walkers took on a 3K trail, while the runners completed a 5K route.

Free T-shirts handed out to participants and free snacks and drinks were available for participants. KTNN radio station, The Voice of the Navajo Nation based in Window Rock, was also on hand to broadcast from the event to listeners on the reservation.

Diabetes screening was available in the travel bus for those who wished to take advantage of the service.
