Autopsy shows Winslow woman died from natural causes

Winslow Police Chief Stephen Garnett reported that preliminary autopsy results indicated the woman found deceased June 1 in her Winslow residence died of natural causes.

Her name has not been released because next of kin had not been notified as of press time.

Winslow police officers found the woman at 8:45 p.m. in her home, located in Freddie’s Mobile Home Park, after receiving a report from a neighbor that the woman’s child was missing. The caller reported the mother had passed out, but WPD arrived to find the woman dead.

“There was some internal bleeding and she had some medical problems,” Garnett said.

The woman is mother of the 3-year-old girl who was missing for 10 hours and then located on the east end of town by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe employee.

“Rumors about rape and murder are circulating, and they just aren’t true,” Garnett said.

Chief Garnett made the announcement of the autopsy at Tuesday’s city council meeting.
