The 4th annual Flagstaff Indian Days Celebration will be held on July 19th, 20th and 21st.
This community supported event is already recognized as a showcase for Native American Arts, Pow Wow competition, an exciting All-Indian Rodeo and Cultural expression.
The events will begin on Saturday, July 13th when the Flagstaff Mall will host a “Cultural Exchange” with an outside demonstration Pow Wow and a Native American Arts & Crafts vendor area within the Mall.
Mayor Joe Donaldson of Flag has issued a proclamation for Native American Appreciation Week in Flagstaff, honor our Indian Veterans and a traditional “Mountain Spirit” dance group, representing the White Mountain Apache Tribe will perform. The cultural exchange, native food court and invitational drum and Pow Wow dance presentations will continue into the evening.
On Friday, July 19 the three-day, Flagstaff Indian Days Celebration will showcase the finest of Native American Art displays, traditional dance and Pow Wow presentations and exciting All-Indian Rodeo competition.
Beginning at 10 a.m. (at Coconino County Fairgrounds) the Native American Marketplace will open and a special “Elders Gathering” to honor our senior citizens will continue until 5 p.m. with an afternoon Cultural Dance Ceremonial and Seniors Rodeo.
The evening activities will include the first performance of the All-Indian Rodeo and an encore presentation the Ceremonial. Don’t miss these traditional dances and the sounds of Native America.
On Saturday morning, July 20 at 10 a.m., a Native American Cultural Parade will “Honor The Warrior Tradition” in historic downtown Flagstaff. In preparation for the Pow Wow, Gourd dancing will begin at 11 am and the colorful “Grand Entry” will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
Rodeo action will continue at the Marshall Knoles Memorial Arena with an evening performance and the competition Pow Wow again at 7pm.
On Sunday morning, July 21 activities open at 10 a.m. with Gourd dancing at 11 p.m. and the Rodeo and Pow Wow at 1 p.m. This is an excellent time to select that special gift, talk with old friends and appreciate the vast cultural diversity of Native Arizona.
