On Thursday, Winslow Outdoor Pool lifeguards pulled a 5-year-old boy out of the water and began to immediately administer rescue breathing.
Valarie Brooks, Recreational Supervisor, said the boy began breathing before the ambulance arrived at the pool. Paramedics then took the boy to Winslow Memorial Hospital. He was released Friday around 3 p.m.
Brooks said the lifeguards responded quickly. “They are being cited for jobs well done,” she said. “They responded within seconds.”
Brooks added the boy did not strike his head diving, but believes other reasons caused him to lose consciousness while in the water.
The boy’s parents were there at the time of the near drowning.
Brooks said the best thing for the boy is to get back in the water and adjust naturally. She expected him to take a swim with the guards Saturday afternoon.
