An Extreme Give Away

Ray Reffner, a 13-year-old Winslow Junior High student, was the winner of Club Extreme’s Christmas Eve raffle.

Reffner walked away with 18 new items in the winner take all raffle.

The group sold tickets to raise money to purchase their club sweatshirts and paint and wood for the new skateboard park ramps. The proceeds from the sale also went to purchase food, clothes and toys for two needy families in the area.

Club Extreme, which is made up of kids who enjoy rollerblading, skateboarding, and scooter and bike riding, was started in October 2001. The group has been working with the City of Winslow towards the building of a skateboard park for their usage.

The group of kids raised over $1,000 in one weekend to pay for their part of the park’s insurance, which is covered under the City of Winslow. The park, which will be located at the abandoned tennis courts at the City Park, is ready for operation, but the group has postponed it’s opening until the weather warms up.

As a member of Club Extreme, a kid can go to the park and skate for free anytime the gates are open. Non-members have to pay an entrance fee every time they wish to skate.

The group gives back to the community every month by doing a service project that is usually a clean-up project.

In the raffle, Reffner won a BMX Bike, a skateboard, a helmet, a Winslow Bulldog coat, a hand made birdhouse, a portrait of John Wayne, two angel figurines, two dinners at Senior D’s, two dinners at Sangri La, two free subway sandwiches, a large pizza from Pizza Hut, a Wells Fargo model 18-wheeler, a veggie chopper, several Avon beauty products, a set of wind chimes, a small metal birdhouse, a candle gift bucket and a scooter.

All of the items were donated by area businesses.
