The Winslow Lady Bulldogs defeated the Tuba City Lady Warriors 52-46 in an Enchantment Region basketball game played in Winslow on Dec. 21.
The victory left the Lady Bulldogs with a record of 9-4 for the season and a perfect 3-0 in the region. Tuba City fell to 8-2 for the season and 2-1 in the region.
The Lady Bulldogs scored 15 of their 18 fourth quarter points from the charity stripe and broke a 34-34 third period tie on their way to the important victory.
Winslow and Tuba City have finished first and second in the region and the state for each of the past two years.
Winslow led 13-10 after the first period and 26-25 at the intermission. Free throws were the key to the victory as Winslow wound up 24 of 39 while the Lady Warriors were only 11 of 22.
Faith Carpenter led all scorers with 16 points for Winslow despite spending much of the game on the bench because of foul trouble. Jayme Lomakema paced Tuba City with 13 points and Tia Semallie was also in double figures with 10 points.
The Lady Bulldogs will resume action on Tuesday with a non-conference game against the Payson Lady Longhorns in Payson.
The next Enchantment Region game for the Lady Bulldogs will be played on Jan. 11 when they host the Window Rock Lady Scouts.
