The Tuba City Warriors defeated the Winslow Lady Bulldogs 46-33 in an Arizona State 3A Basketball Championship Tournament semi-final game played in Phoenix on Friday. The Lady Warriors went on to defeat Seton Catholic 42-32 on Saturday and win their third straight state championship. Winslow completed its season with a 25-6 record.
The Lady Warriors used a stifling defense and a precision offense in the opening quarter as they raced to a 20-4 lead. Winslow righted itself in the second period and trailed 27-10 at the intermission. The Lady Bulldogs got back into the contest with a great third period effort as they cut the Tuba City margin to six points at 31-25. Winslow got within four points before the Lady Warriors pulled away in the final period to secure the victory.
Jayme Lomakema led all scorers with 17 points for Tuba City. Nicole Tsingine was also in double figures for the Lady Warriors with 13 points.
Lexine Jensen paced Winslow with 10 points including a pair of three pointers that keyed Winslow’s third period charge. Faith Carpenter added nine points for the Lady Bulldogs.
