Occupational Therapy Impacts Lives Of Students With Technology And Sign Language In TC District

Webster’s Dictionary’s formal definition of occupational therapy is “therapy in which the principal element is some form of creative or productive activity.” Tuba City’s District-wide school program and its resource personnel are exemplary living examples of this definition.

Part of a Special Education Department staff of 94, Occupational/Physical Therapy and Assisted Technology has a major impact on the students that require specialized services and additional physical assistance in their everyday classroom environment. Jim Hamon, Jeanne Stoughton, Fern Pooyouma, Mike Burns, Alex Begay, and American Sign Language instructor, LaVerne June provide these services on a daily basis creatively inspiring their students to try harder and accomplish goals set out for them in the individualized assessments (IEP’s) developed at the beginning of the school year.
