The Bulldogs will meet the Greyhills Academy Knights at Tuba City in their second game of the season on Sept. 13. Greyhills went winless at 0-9, 0-7 in the region last season. The Bulldogs drubbed the Knights 49-0 last season.
The non-conference part of the season will follow and should give a good indication of how Winslow stacks up against the best 3A teams in the state. The Bulldogs will host the Snowflake Lobos on Sept. 20. The Lobos defeated Winslow 22-7 last season and were state title contenders.
On Sept. 27, the Bulldogs will face Arizona State 3A Champion Blue Ridge at Lakeside. The Yellowjackets rolled over everyone last season on their way to the title. Winslow fell 56-6 in the only game in which the Bulldogs were defeated decisively.
The Ganado Hornets will be in Winslow on Oct. 4. The Hornets finished second in the region last year with a 6-1 record and were 7-4 for the season over all. Winslow defeated the Hornets 42-13 in the regular season, but lost 20-9 in the play-offs. Wickenburg eliminated the Hornets from the play-offs 32-7 in the second round.
The Bulldogs will go to Kayenta on Oct. 11 to meet the Monument Valley Mustangs. The Mustangs were 42-8 victims of Winslow last season. Monument Valley finished tied for fourth in the region with Tuba City, but got the play-off spot by beating the Warriors in head to head competition. The Mustangs were 3-7 for the season and 3-4 in the region.
The Hopi Bruins are expected to be among the most improved squads in the region under new coach Russ Semore. Semore left Ganado for Hopi and has coaching experience at Winslow as well. Hopi will be in Winslow on Oct. 18. The Bruins were soundly beaten 51-0 by the Bulldogs last season. Hopi finished the season 2-7 for the year and 1-6 in the region.
Winslow will visit Tuba City on Oct. 25 to meet the Tuba City Warriors. The Warriors missed the play-offs with a 3-4 regional record and were 3-6 for the season. Winslow defeated the Warriors 46-7 last season.
The final game of the regular season for the Bulldogs will be played at Holbrook on Nov. 1 against the Holbrook Roadrunners. Holbrook finished third in the region last year and advanced to the play-offs. The Roadrunners were 5-5 for the season and 5-2 in the region. Winslow was hard pressed to defeat Holbrook 26-15 last season.
Post-season play will begin on Nov. 8. The Bulldogs have high hopes of hosting a game that day and advancing to the second round in the Phoenix area
