Bulldogs Split Pair In Captain Tony’s Tourney
The Winslow Bulldogs defeated Many Farms 11-0 and lost to Window Rock 12-6 in the Captain Tony’s Invitational Tournament in Winslow on Friday and Saturday. The tournament was canceled due to inclement weather before it could be completed. Winslow ended the week with a 9-10 record for the season and is 1-0 in the Enchantment Region.
Against Many Farms, Winslow scored 11 runs on 11 hits led by Fernando Lopez’s three for three performance that included a home run and a double. Seth Davis, Steve Martinez and Michael Beeson were all two for three. Beeson and Martinez had homers. Davis and Martinez had doubles and Davis had a triple. Lucas Armenta and Lyle Brown were one for three. Joseph Sanchez got the mound victory and held Many Farms to a pair of hits while striking out nine.
Window Rock scored 12 runs on 10 hits, breaking up a close game with two runs in the sixth inning and four more in the top of the seventh.
Lopez again led the Bulldogs at the plate with a double and a home run in three trips. Beeson had a homer in two trips to the plate. Armenta was one for three with a triple and Davis was one for four.
Winslow will host Round Valley today (April 10) in a non-conference game and host Monument Valley on Thursday in an Enchantment Region contest. The Bulldogs will meet the Hopi Bruins at Polacca on Saturday in a regional game and host Window Rock on Tuesday in another Enchantment Region game.
